It has been revealed that there are plans in place to renovate the Waterfront thanks to Historic England. Part of this big project will see works done to the popular Madeira Terrace which is set to benefit from £750,000 of works. Parts of the seafront terrace have been closed to the public for the last 12 years as the structure has been deemed unsafe for visitors.
Madeira Terrace is 865m long stretch of seafront arches, thought to be the longest continuous cast iron structure in the UK, with Grade 2 listed structure. The first phase will see 28 of its 151 ornate arches and bays restored and a new fully accessible lift will also be installed. Renovations to the Maderia Promenade are part of a multi-million-pound project that aims to develop the seafront around the Brighton Centre. There are also plans in place to extend the City’s beach and to introduce a new beach park, and sports hub in West Hove.
